The Martha Stewart Rule
Jul 13, 2026
Issue 012
I just love Martha Stewart. I recently watched her Netflix documentary and I respected her even more so. And, what I love about her most is, she really didn’t start to thrive and take off professionally until she was in her forties…
Martha Stewart published her first book at forty-one.
She launched the magazine at forty-eight. The television show at fifty-one. The IPO that made her America's first self-made female billionaire — she was fifty-eight.
She built the empire in the decade most women have been quietly told to start shrinking. The decade the world starts pricing you out of relevance. The decade the magazines stop putting women like you on the cover and start selling you serums instead. By the way, did you catch her iconic Vanity Fair cover and spread? She is extraordinary at 84 years young.
At Fifty-Eight, she became a billionaire. And–she built it herself.
I want you to hold that against whatever timeline you have been keeping in your head about your own next chapter.
Creating a mult-billion dollar business may not be your goal, and that’s not the real message. It’s that she didn’t let age-ism or societal rules define her. Even a stint in prison didn’t stop her from making a come-back. There's a thing about Martha that I feel is just legendary…
People look at her now — at eighty-four, on the cover of Sports Illustrated, sharper than most of us at thirty — and they assume the body, the energy, the presence is the achievement.
It isn't.
The morning is the achievement. The juice. The workout before the inbox. The plate of real food before the day asks anything of her. She does not white-knuckle her way into those choices. She makes them because of who she is being. The body is just the receipt.
She is not a woman maintaining a body. She is a woman maintaining a life that requires a body that can hold it.
That distinction is the iconic move.
For most of us, the math has been sold to us backwards for a long time.
We have been trying to lose the weight so that the life starts. Drop the pounds, then take the photo. Get the body, then book the trip. Fix the food, then ask for the raise. Be small enough first, then be seen.
The women who quietly run their lives — the Marthas, the Lopezes, the Gagas, the ones we keep studying from a distance — do not work this way. They have a life so demanding, so beloved, so unmistakably theirs, that the body is downstream. Maintained, not chased. Tended to, not negotiated with.
The non-weight goal is the lever. Always.
The woman who has decided she is launching the brand, writing the book, going back to school, taking the salsa class, raising the rates, walking back into the room that scared her once — that woman eats differently without trying. She moves because her body is the engine of a life she actually wants to live, not a punishment for a life she's apologizing for.
The physique gets simpler, easier, more playful, because it isn't the point anymore. It's the floor.
So here is the question I want to ask you. Not for this year. Not for this decade. Not for some five-year vision that lives on a Pinterest board you forgot the password to.
For June.
Who are you choosing to be in the next thirty-one days? And, what makes you and your goals the perfect fit for a SLIM Identity?
What does she do on a Tuesday morning when no one is watching? What does she say yes to at work that the current version of you keeps deferring? What does she stop tolerating at the dinner table — from herself, from the people she loves? What does she wear on an ordinary Wednesday because she has stopped saving her good clothes for a better body?
This isn't about being perfect by July first. It is about being her on purpose, starting now.
You have the same options as Martha, in June, that she had in her fifties. You do not have to wait for the weight. You do not have to wait for confidence. You do not have to wait for the calendar to turn over to a more convenient year.
You only have to decide who you are being for the next thirty-one days. And then let the body, the food, the mornings, the mirror, all of it — come into alignment with her.
Let’s be more like Martha.
